How to Choose a Good Movie to Watch

from wikiHow - The How to Manual That You Can Edit

Ready to sit down and watch a good movie, but don't want to waste your time and money renting or viewing a movie that is a dud? Here are some steps to help!

Steps

  1. Decide what type of movie you want to view. There are certain things that you, personally, don't want to see. But don't think of it in terms of what not to see. Think of it in terms of what you'd like to see. What story lines interest you? What actors do you like?
  2. Do your research. The internet is a great tool to find reviews at web sites like Rotten Tomatoes, theater show times like those on Fandango, or rent videos from online stores such as Netflix or Blockbuster in the US or Tesco in the UK. Alternatively, try talking to friends who have similar taste in movies as you.
  3. While researching, determine the film's rating. Rating types vary from country to country and a rating in one country may not match another country's. Use this guide to international film ratings depending on the country you live in. Film ratings are a great way to determine if a movie is going to be something you want to watch. For example, if you like the horror/gore movies, you aren't going to find one among the PG-rated and G-rated movies.
  4. Watch your movie.
    • Sometimes the movie you select is really good. Think about which elements of the movie you really enjoyed and remember them or write them down. Then use this when researching to determine if another movie might be interesting.
    • Likewise, even with the best research, you might find a flop. But that doesn't mean discouragement. Determine what you didn't like about the movie and keep that in mind when selecting your next movie.
Alternatively
  1. Make decisions about what type of movie would interest you.
    • Genres - are you interested in Drama, Action, Horror, etc.?
    • Mood - What mood are you in? Funny, serious, romantic, etc.?
    • Values - what type of movie rating and values are you looking for in a movie?
  2. Begin looking for movies available using online services. Be sure to read the reviews both by the pro's and everyday people like yourself that have already watched the movie.
  3. Narrow your choices by first making a list of five to ten movies that interest you and match your genre, mood, and values. Then choose a movie from your list.
  4. Buy some popcorn and enjoy your movie.

Tips

  • When researching online, try looking for web sites that specialize in films and reviews only. These will likely have some kind of professional opinion of the movie.
  • If you are planning to watch the film with children present, and are interested in a movie above a "G"-rating, preview the film first. If you ever have to mute a word, skip a scene, or otherwise not watch the film through, perhaps it's not the right movie for you to watch with the children.
  • If you don't like the movie you're watching, turn it off. Don't waste your time.
  • Remember that different people like different things in movies. If you are planning on watching a movie with someone else be sure to keep their preference in mind when choosing a movie.
  • to enhance the movie watching experience, ask friends to watch them with you:)

Warnings

  • Depending on the degree of censoring you want to do when previewing, watch movies closely for innuendos and words/terms that children can pick up. If you don't want them repeating it at school or at home, then they shouldn't watch it.

Why Rent When You Can Download Unlimited Movies?

Less and less people are making the trip to the movie theater to see their favorite stars in action. The lines are long and the prices are high. More and more people are finding other ways to see the movies that they want to watch, without the hassle of going to the theater.

Your first choice if you want to watch movies is to purchase the DVD or Blu-ray disc once it is available for purchase. For about $20, you get one movie that you can watch over and over as many times as you like. This is not the best option for someone who enjoys watching lots of movies.

Your next option is to go to your local video rental store. Movies become available to rent on DVD or Blu-ray at the same time they become available for purchase. The wait is typically two to three months or longer if the film is doing well at the box office. For around $4, you can rent the movies you want to see, but be sure to watch it and return it quickly or you will face late charges. Should you ever lose a disc, you will have to pay the rental store price, which can be hundreds of dollars, to replace it.

In addition, rental stores will only purchase a couple of copies to rent out to everyone. If you are not waiting at the door as soon as the store opens on the day the movie you want to see is released, you may find yourself waiting even longer. Some stores will hold movies for members, but most do not, especially new releases.

Now, let us get down to the real choice: the Internet. Thanks to technology, many of the movies we want to watch, new and old are available on the Internet. Depending on the movie download site you visit, film quality, sound and availability vary.

Your first online option is free P2P network sites. These sites connect thousands of users and provide an application that allows them to share files. This is legal for the site, but downloading and sharing copyrighted material is not legal.
The majority of the films, especially new releases, are the work of someone armed with a digital camcorder at the movie theater. The film is generally out of focus with bad sound. Occasionally, a DVD copy will surface, but the chances of it being in your language are slim. In addition you are at risk to be sued by the MPAA for illegal movie downloads and for the grand finale you are at risk your computer becoming infected with spyware, adware, viruses, etc.

The best option for watching movies is through legal movie download sites such as Movies Capital. This site allows you to pay one low fee for the movies that you want to watch or download. All of the movies offered on the site are fully licensed. This means that since these movies are legal and abide by all copyright laws they are all risk free and fast to download.

Unlike with the local rental store, you do not have to hurry and watch the movie to avoid late charges. That is what makes downloading movies from the Internet so fantastic. You can watch the movie immediately streaming right on your computer. If you do not have the time for a movie right now, simply download it to your hard drive and watch it when it is convenient for you. If you want to watch movies on the go, you can transfer files to your mobile device easily. If you want to watch movies with your family on your television, all you have to do is burn to a DVD and you are ready to watch.
